Class: Language and Representation blog tasks

1) Narrative:

Corakinus killis one of his minions/slaves because they failed him.

Next we see the school with mis Quill is talking to the new headteacher and Ram and April's develop a relationship.

We then see Ram and April sitting in a car together. April's dad then appears out of nowhere and asks April for forgiveness from something that has happened in the past between them

Corakinus then tries to attempt to heal the heart problem using one of his minions anchor. This makes April then attack her dad as corakinus is trying to take over her.

Corakinus's minion fails and he ends up killing due to her failure and his anger.

Characters:

Corankinus
Ram
April
Charlie
Tanya

Settings: its based in the school, garden and Corkinus's layer.

2) E - Starts with Ram and April talking to their parents. Nothing abnormal.

D - A bit later on, Corankinus kills one of his minions as they fail to unlink his and April's heart.

R - April still feels her connection with Corakinus and starts acting weird in class.

R - April fights the feeling off and asks what she was talking about.

NE - Normal

3)April- princess/hero

Ram - hero/princess

Tanya- helper

Ms Quill - hero

Charlie - hero/princess

4)Ram and April together in April's room - Ram and April tend to be getting closer and closer and so we want to see what will happen to them.

Right at the end, where April opens the portal between the shadow world and earth - makes us question whether or not something will happen to her or Ram.

Representation:

1) Gender stereotypes are subverted as April is more of a hero then a damsel destress in most films the female is not the hero and Ram on the other hand can be the damsel in distress as he is at time needed to be rescued.

2) In class the teenagers are represented as the protectors and the knowledgeable and the adults and parents seem to be the ones in need to be filled in and misunderstanding what is happening.

3) There is not really a stereotypical/non - stereotypical  view of race and ethnicity but there is different races and ethnicity - Tanya (black African), Ram (Indian), April/Charlie/Ms Quill (all white), so this shows the different ethnicity in the cast.

4) Sexuality is represented positively as it shows that theirs no different or discrimination being gay,

5) They represent disability has something not to be ashamed of and they stand out for the right reasons and should be seen as a beauty not a flaw.

Introduction to Science-fiction TV drama: blog task

 1) Class meets the conventions of a TV series drama as class as it has conventions such as dramatic music different camera angles and intense moments.

2) The conventions of science fiction that you can find in class is sonic weapons, aliens from different planets and monsters.

3) Other genres suggested by the film trailer is horror as at points you see glimpses of aliens a dark figure and someone being pulled away buy a creature.Another possible genre is romance as throughout the trailer you see people kissing and two people even kissing naked.

4) Doctor who appears in the end of the trailer for only a split second.

5) I believe the target audio for Class is mid teens as the science fiction in the series does not seem childish and the dialogue does not suit a young audience as they would be lost. Another reason why i suggest mid teens as there sexual scenes which would not be appropriate for a young audience but could possibly appeal for an older audience.

extension work

The other reference to Doctor who in the series aside from the doctor him self was the high school which was originally called coal hill high school in the 60s but as the series is set in 2016 a more modern world it has been changed to coal hill academy.

Represent NHS Blood & Transplant campaign: blog task

1)Black Asian and minority ethnic

2)So they need ethnic backgrounds to meet the needs of all patients.

3) The advert would want the consumers of black Asian and minority ethnic people to go and donate blood.

4) The advert is called represent as they want BAME people to stand up and represent themselves.

5) One famous celebrity is Ade Adepitan who is a professional wheelchair basketballer. Another famous celebrity is Lady leshurr she is a famous rapper, and the last famous celebrity is Kanya King she is the founder and CEO of MOBO.

6) The empty chairs at the end could be a sort of message saying like there's always space for donors all  you have to do is go and donate .

7)

8) One way the advert subverts stereotypes is through Kanya King as she is a CEO and has a high position which is normally seen as men in jobs or roles like CEO.Another one is the female boxer as most people associate boxing with men but this subverts that and shows females can do boxing to, and the last one is Mariah Idrissi she subverts stereotypical views of women having to have nice hair and figure to model.

9) The possible offence i could see is that some people may take offence to a black woman rapping as rapping is a black culture thing and when rapping comes to peoples mind mostly people will think of black rappers and may take possible offence to a black person rapping

OMO advert

1) in 1955.

2)Women were represented as housewives and stay at home mums who dress for no occasions and always look good for their husband. This advert makes women seem as if they enjoy cleaning and even have to be overdressed for it. For example the smile on the woman's face denotes enjoyment and connotes excitement as what she is currently doing.

3)The writing is in sans serif which connotes relaxing and fun. The heading message gives an idea to the audience that the product isn't any ordinary product it's a product which doubles the brightness of your clothes and lasts longer than any other detergent.

4)The writing is in sans serif which connotes relaxing and fun. The heading message gives an idea to the audience that the product isn't any ordinary product it's a product which doubles the brightness of your clothes and lasts longer than any other detergent.

5)The picture for the product is added to the bottom right of the advert to show the connection between the flash box outside the bold heading for the product and for the advert headline. This is done to divert the audience from the headline to the product of advertisement.

6)The connotations of the colour scheme demonstrate the freshness of the product. For example: The colour blue suggests calmness and coolness and the colour white suggests cleanliness and purity. These colours give the idea of a clean trustworthy detergent that will provide you with a crisp refreshing shade of extra-white white.

7)The anchorage text gives the audience more detail and information on the product being advertised. For example the repetition of the word bright sinks the idea of cleanliness into the audiences' belief.

8)The representations of women are cleaners lifeless and people who spend their life cooking and cleaning for their husband.

9)The preferred reading of this advert is that your everyday detergent isn't as good as the OMO detergent as it will bring "Whiteness to brightness". This gives the audience a belief that OMO is a special type of detergent and it's different to all the others.

10)The oppositional reading for this advert is that women are good for one thing only (cleaning) and that they enjoy cleaning as they have nothing better to do than look good for their husband.

Tatler: case study blog tasks

1)The aspects of British life that is not reflected in Tatler is the average or struggling people as Tatler mainly focuses on the rich and wealthy people of Britain.

2)The fact that Tatler hold special activity's that are exclusive and not for everyone would show that you would need to be a wealthy person to be involved as your average person would not be able to be involved as its expensive and fancy and only really suit people with a rich taste.

3)The image of the women

Gender representation in advertising

Image result for adverts featuring women that are from the 1950s or 1960sImage result for adverts featuring women that are from the 1950s or 1960s
Image result for adverts featuring women that are from the 2000s sexistImage result for adverts featuring women that are from the 2000s sexistImage result for adverts featuring women that are from the 2000s        Image result for adverts featuring women that are from the 2000s

3)The stereotypes that you can find of women in the 1950s - 1960s advert is that they are seen as possession as all three adverts have something to do with either keep her or making her look good.Another view is they can be seen as quick pleasures as one of the advertisements anchorage says "keep her where she belongs" which say that women should only be used for me sexual needs are worthless.

4)The stereotypes that you can find of women in the 2000s adverts is that women need to have a perfect body and smell and have to come by as attractive for me.One of the other adverts show that women should have to stay home and be domestic wives as you can see one of the ads use the fact that men can't breast feed as an excuse that women should stay home.

5) I believe that the way genders have been represented in the last 50 years has not changed much as the only real change is that women should have a perfect body and still smell and look nice for men and the idea that women should stay home and work is still portrayed in adverts even to this day.In conclusion i believe adverts have not changed much over 50 years.

Introduction to advertising: blog task

Image result for haribo advert picture

1) One of the key convention of this Haribo advert is the picture as it helps the audience visualise the product.

2)The picture would appeal to the audience as it is colourful and seems friendly to the target audience.

The logo is a friendly red with a white outline and its showed through bubble writing which would make it look young and friendly.

The background is blue with a light beaming onto the sweet packets as if it is reward which could say that the sweet is rewarding when ate.

The slogan " kids and grown-ups love it so, the happy world of Haribo." This shows that anyone of any age enjoy Harbio's and that Harbio's make the world a better place.#

3) The unique selling point of Haribo's is to children as more children eat sweets than adults so they would try to make the advert more appealing to children.

Magazine assessment: learner response

1) 2/22
     grade:w+

ebi: A real shame, Shamsher. Although you missed some of the lessons leading up to the exam, you should have been able to give the questions a go - your a bright boy, you could have tried harder to understand what each question is asking from you.

2) 2/2
      0/12
    0/8

4) Use of language, typography and non verbal codes.

5) The use of san serif suggest that its targeting an older audience
Saying royal update shows exclusivity to the audience.Using san serif would show that its a expensive and not your normal magazine as Tatler is a magazine mainly for rich posh people.

January assessment learner response

1)1/1

2)1/1

3)3/8 Did not go into depth.

4)0/2 Did not know what vertical integration

5)2/2

6)8/20 Should have listed more examples.

In question three i answered the question good for a preferred reading but my answer for oppositional reading was not correct.

Vertical integration is when a owns all parts of a chain of production of a media product.

paragraph one : agree with the statement Hollywood films have a bigger budget than independent films therefore means Hollywood can produce better quality films

paragraph two: an argument against it would be if independent films became more creative than Hollywood films they could make more

paragraph three: Hollywood films usually have films with famous actors and the famous actors loyal fan base is likely to watch the film that the actors in increasing total profits

paragraph 4: Independent films change up their plot and story lines could attract the attention of a lot of people.

Representation

1) The people in the posters are young teenagers men and women and seems to be set in the suburbs.

2) The stereotypes i can identify are youths wearing hoodies and having weapons and up to no good and it also mainly shows black people.

3) The preferred reading of this poster would be that their young people up to no good and trying to cause trouble.

4) The oppositional reading of this is that their struggling to live on what they have and trying at any extent to survive even if it means to bad.

Extension:

The poster suggest that British society youths are all violent and evil as they are demonised in this poster as you can see a boy holding a bat with a hoodie on which suggest he is not up to any good which clouds the actual good people of society. The poster also shows the stereotypical and racist view that every youth that does wrong are black as the poster has 4 black people out of the 6 people in the poster

Doctor Strange: blog tasks

1) The companies that made Doctor strange was Marvel.

2) A conglomerate ownership is were small independent companies make up a larger corporation. This links to Doctor as Disney owns so many smaller companies for different movie productions such as companies that specialise in stuff such as special effects.

3) The films are regulated by the British board of film classification.(BBFC)

4) It was a 12a as it was seen as moderate fantasy violence and detailed injuries.

5) Doctor strange was promoted in the traditional way of poster and teaser trailers, another way was film based websites with gallery and story synopsis and the third way was social media profiles such as : Instagram,Youtube and Twitter.

6) One way you could tell the film trailer was a blockbuster was the special effects as the colours are not dull and dark but bright and radiant which i belief would not be cheap and also another way was how detailed the graphics were.

7) The budget was $165 million and it grossed $700 million.

8) I believe Doctor strange was a successful movie as the main goal for film producers is to make as much profit as it can and which Doctor strange done so it can be considered a successful film.

I, Daniel Blake: blog tasks

1)Independent cinema is a cinema that produced outside of big studios with a small to medium budget. This is different to Hollywood as it is the complete opposite of what Hollywood cinema is as in Hollywood cinema studios are given massive budgets.

2)It is bout a 59 year old man who must rely on welfare after a heart attack which left him unable to work despite doctors saying his is fit for work. The film shows Daniel Blake work his way appealing for benefits and gains a strong bond with a single mother throughout the film.

3) The director of I, Daniel Blake is Ken Loach. This is important as Ken Loach has a strong thought of social issues as I, Daniel Blake depicts in the film.

4) One way I, Daniel Black was promoted was the hashtag that trended which was "We are all Daniel Blake" Another way the film was promoted was merchandise as they sold T shirts with the hashtag "We are all Daniel Blake"The third way was through the trinity mirror as they advertised the film which would increase potential viewers.

5) Secret cinema youth cinema which was aimed at first time voters before the 2017 elections there was also a food bank set up.

6)The estimated budget for I, Daniel Blake was £2 million. In total the filmed grossed £11 million.

7) Independent films like I, Daniel Blake could compete with Hollywood films like Doctor strange by thinking outside the box and create films that targets a niche audience and slowly build upon it but the targets could be niche audience with high amount of viewers such as an example Boyz in the hood this targets black Americans in the hood but has an overall moral to the story and shows the truth of what actually happens.

8) Overall i think I, Daniel Blake was a successful film as it an overall moral and shows the harsh reality that some people live in and the film made a massive profit compared to the budget it was given.
